being good

what does it mean to be "good"?
one of the best experiences of my life was teaching art to junior high school students
that age group is one of the most creative, alive, excited, curious, active and unmanageable  times of life
people that age aren't "good," they're REALLY GOOD

those qualities are productive - they teach, they open minds, they impact our lives in profound ways

unfortunately, that behavior and those emotions are not ones that teachers (or dog trainers) always encourage - that behavior and those emotions make it harder to "train" people (and dogs) - to put them in line to accomplish what the "teachers" want to accomplish - not what the students want - and things that students actively WANT are the things that ultimately influence their lives

in many, but not all, cases students (human and animal) are put in behavior boxes and miss out on experiences which help them develop who they really are both creatively and intellectually

while that kind of training has benefits it can also be destructive and numbing - we need to watch ourselves - and others

portugese man of war

is it a man?
is it an animal?
when you say "man" of war, is that literal?
are all "portugese man of wars"  male?
wouldn't it then be "portugese men of war?"
shouldn't there be another category, like "portugese creatures of war"?
why isn't there a portugese "woman" of war
if there's a man, there has to be a woman

see Laurel's photo of the "portugese man (or woman)  of war that stung her in Hawaii
that's on my faceook page (and Laurel's too)

?

I have no idea where this is being posted, hmmmm I think, hmmm?

question for the day  - painful  - how do you know when your dying pet is ready to die?

Religion is, but in the spirit of it conceptually - ought not to be,divisive Division precludes equality and opens the doors to war and intolerance

in making art

"in making art you bring your highest skills to bear upon the materials and the IDEAS (my caps and italics)
you most care about -" makes me feel good to read that someone else wrote what I try to do - validates me to myself to some extent

met a woman while walking with the dog in Stern Grove - holding the book ART & FEAR she commented on it and asked me if I was an artist - "big word" I replied - she agreed and told me she is an artist ...

what's better, more fun, more provocative, more satisfying, more important than bringing people together and learning from each other before we take off to do whatever else it is that we do

I enjoy sharing images and creatively using materials accessible to all
